Seeking a skilled Research Assistant with demonstrated research experience fluent in Iraqi Colloquial Arabic for an academic book project on the history of chemical weapons during the Iran-Iraq war.

About project:
This research will be undertaken under the supervision of Narges Bajoghli, an Assistant Professor of Middle East Studies at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. The research is for an academic book project about the history of chemical warfare during the Iran-Iraq war and its long-term impacts on the lives of survivors. Narges has worked on this issue since 2005, directing a documentary film about survivors in Iran and directing an oral history project of survivors in Iran and Iraq. The book expands on this work and will include diplomatic history from all sides

Work includes:
- Finding, reading, and translating documents from the time period (official archival material, news pieces, personal correspondence, etc.)
- Translating for interviews when needed
Qualifications:
- Experience with research (can be an advanced MA or PhD student)
- Fluent in Iraqi Colloquial Arabic
- Knowledge of Iraqi institutions and political structures from the 1980s
